DRINK MY BLOOD
9-16-08
Jesus said “Truly, truly I say to you (all who are to be His disciples) unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in yourselves.” (John 6:53). John records that as a result of this statement “many of His disciples withdrew and were not walking with Him anymore” even though Jesus told them that His flesh and blood (Himself) is true food and drink and that it would bring them life.
Later Jesus shed His blood and died for all who would receive Him and the abundant grace of the Father. It is only through the life Jesus gave (one life taken for another) that we can approach God. Let us not miss out on the importance and blessing of the blood of Christ.
So what is in Christ’s blood and what does it do that we are to drink of it that we may have life? There is power in the blood! The power of life is in the blood of Christ shed for us. His blood came from the Holy Spirit as the Spirit came upon the virgin Mary and she became with child. He had no sin in Him.
His perfect blood is the very element of the new covenant! Luke records the words of Jesus in 22:20 “This cup… is the new covenant of My blood. Hebrews 13:20 gives us a look at the power held in the blood of the new covenant. Hebrews says that God …”brought up from the dead the Great Shepherd of the sheep through the blood of the eternal covenant, Jesus our Lord.”
By the power of the Holy Spirit and the blood, our Lord Jesus was raised from the dead! If the manna from heaven and water from the rock in the wilderness were spiritual food certainly His flesh and blood (the elements of communion or the Lords’ table) are true spiritual food and drink for us today (1 Cor. 10:3-4). His body and blood are spiritual food for our spirit and soul helping us to mature and gain strength.
A friend in Christ testified how he was oppressed with depression he could not get rid of or shake off for an extended period of his life. His Christian brothers prayed for him, over him, and came forth with appropriate scriptures but that still did not free him of the oppression he suffered. One day someone asked if he had ever “pleaded” the blood of Christ over himself. Not really understanding what that was or how it might work he spoke forth that the shed blood of Jesus was shed for him and since he had received it for his forgiveness he was covered by the blood and its power. The afflicting spirit left!
It is not surprising “pleading” the blood would bring this victory when considering Revelations 12:11 “and they (the believers) overcame him (satan himself) because of the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives even when faced with death.” I urge you today to meditate on this verse.
Others have turned to the Lord through the Lords’ table (communion) on a daily basis for their physical or emotional healing and in time were completely healed or restored again. There is power in the blood! By His strips we are healed, saved, delivered!
Some teach that we are not to “plead” the blood of Jesus perhaps due to misunderstandings. I think we are not pleading but rather declaring the truth regarding His blood and all that it was shed for. It brings not only forgiveness of sins which is of the greatest importance but according to scripture as stated above it gives life and has the power to save, defeat satan and even raise the dead.
May the Lord’s word take root in your heart and produce abundantly.
Bless you
Jon
